How to Install and Configure Kali Linux?

Kali Linux is one of the best security packages for ethical hackers. Open source, the official site is https://www.kali.org.

Normally, Kali Linux can be installed as a virtual machine on the machine as an operating system. This is described in the next section. Installing Kali Linux is a useful option. This is because there are more options to manipulate and combine these tools. You can also create a time boot CD or USB. All of these are on the following link: https://www.kali.org/downloads/

BackTrack is the old version of the Kali Linux distribution. The latest version is Kali 2016.1, which is frequently updated.

To download Kali Linux:

i. First, we will download the Virtual box and install it.

ii. Later, we will download and install Kali Linux distribution.

            Installing Virtual Box

VirtualBox is particularly useful when you want to test your indeterminate Kali Linux. When you want to try an unknown package or want to test the code, running Kali Linux on the virtual box is safe. With Virtual Box, you can install Kali Linux (not directly on your hard drive) on your system with your main operating system, MAC or Windows or other styles of Linux.

Let’s understand how you can download and install the Virtual Box on your system.

Step 1:

           To download, please visit https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. Depending on your operating system, select the correct package. In this case, it will be the first in Windows, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 2:

           Click Next.

Step 3:

           The next page will give you the option to select the location where you want to install the application. In this case, let's leave it as the default, and then click Next.

Step 4:

           Click Next and bring up the following custom installer screenshots. Select the features you want to install, and then click Next.

Step 5:

           Click Yes to proceed with the installation.

Step 6:

           The Ready to Install screen pops up. Click Install.

Step 7:

           Click the Finish button.

  The virtual box application will now open as shown in the screenshot below. Now we are ready to install the rest of the manual for this manual, which is also recommended for professional use.

                   Installing Kali Linux

Now that we have successfully installed Virtualbox, let's go ahead and install Kali Linux.

Step 1:

           Download the Kali Linux package from its official website https://www.kali.org/downloads/

Step 2:

           Click VirtualBox → New as shown in the following screenshot.

Step 3:

           Choose the right virtual hard disk file and click Open.

Step 4:

           The following screenshot pops up. Click the Create button.

Step 5:

           Start Kali OS. The default username is root and the password is toor.

This is enough for now but there is something more about Kali Linux e.g updating Kali Linux etc. Which I'll explain in next post.
