Reconnaissance what it is? Types of it...

Reconnaissance

Information collection and understanding of the target system is the first step in ethical hacking. Reconnaissance is a series of processes and techniques (footprint, scan, enumeration) that are used to discover and gather information on the target system.

During the reconnaissance process, a ethical hacker tried to gather as much information as possible about the target system according to the following seven steps:
  • Gather initial information
  • Determine the network range
  • Identify active machines
  • Discover open ports and access points
  • Fingerprint the operating system
  • Uncover services on ports
  • Map the network
All of these steps are described in detail in subsequent sections of this tutorial. Reconnaissance is done in two parts: active reconnaissance and passive reconnaissance.

Active Reconnaissance

In this process, you interact directly with the computer system to obtain information. This information is relevant and accurate. If you are ready to actively conduct reconnaissance without permission it may be detected. If detected, the system administrator can take thorough measures against you and follow follow-up activities.

Passive Reconnaissance

During this process, you do not connect directly to the computer system. This process is used to gather basic information without interaction with the target system.
